Description of the organisation: zakk is a socio-cultural centre offering an ambitious and versatile cultural programme. The emphasis is on literature and the stage, cabaret & comedy, music, cross-culture, projects & political events, discos & parties. zakk visitors are from all social and cultural backgrounds. The age spectrum includes everyone from the young verbal acrobat to people over 50 interested in Internet and computers. With about 500 events and ca. 150.000 visitors per year, zakk is one of the largest socio-cultural centres in North-Rhine-Westphalia.

Main projects in 2009: "Caminos de musica" (concert with two bands from two different countries – Venezuela and Germany); lecture with Seyran Ates; exchange programme of German and Dutch authors; International Street Festival; "Kültürkultur" (series of events with artists from Düsseldorf with a Turkish background); Turkish Cabaret Night.
Foreseen projects in 2010: conference "Perspectives on Integration"; Local World Tunes (series of concerts of young bands from Düsseldorf with a migrant background); Pushkin Festival; Connect workshop; Amsterdam Calling (showcase of music and literature from the Netherlands).
